Frequently asked questions

Will compressing my image reduce its quality?

Slightly, depending on the quality level you choose. Defaults are tuned to deliver a 60–80% file-size reduction with no visible difference for typical photos.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Compression happens entirely inside your browser using the Canvas API — files never touch our servers.

What's the maximum file size I can compress?

There is no hard limit, but very large images (over ~50 MB) may slow your browser. Most photos under 25 MB compress in seconds.

Can I compress multiple images at once?

Yes — drop several files at once and the tool processes them in parallel, then offers a single ZIP download.

Does it support PNG transparency?

Yes. PNG transparency is preserved during compression. WebP transparency is also fully supported.

What's the difference between lossy and lossless compression?

Lossy (JPG, WebP) discards data your eye barely notices, giving big size savings. Lossless (PNG) keeps every pixel exact but compresses less.

How much smaller will my images be?

Typically 50–80% smaller. A 4 MB JPEG often compresses to 800 KB–1.5 MB at quality 80 with no visible change.

Will compressing images hurt my SEO?

The opposite — smaller images load faster, which directly improves Core Web Vitals (LCP) and Google's page-experience ranking signals.

Can I compress images for Instagram, WhatsApp, or email?

Yes. For email and chat apps, target around 200–500 KB. For Instagram, keep the long edge at 1080–1440 px and quality at 75–85.

Why is my PNG file still large after compression?

PNG is lossless, so size savings are limited (typically 10–30%). For photos, convert to JPG or WebP for dramatically smaller files.

Do I lose EXIF data when I compress?

Yes — EXIF metadata is stripped by default, which is good for privacy. Use our EXIF Stripper if you need to remove metadata without re-encoding.

Can I compress images on mobile?

Yes. The tool runs fully in your phone's browser. iPhone HEIC and Android HEIF photos are supported via in-browser decoding.

What quality level is best for web use?

Quality 75–82 for JPG/WebP is the sweet spot — visually identical to the original and 4–6× smaller. Use 90+ only for hero/banner imagery.

Does compression work on animated GIFs or PNGs?

Single-frame compression works on the first frame only. For animated content, use our Video to GIF tool with optimized settings.

Is this tool free for commercial use?

Yes. Compress unlimited images for personal, client, or commercial projects — no licensing, no attribution, no paywall.
